Super Moon 슈퍼문 at Seokchon Lake

The Super Moon is supposed to glow in 7 different colors… I only caught 6

Next week is Chuseok 추석, Korean Thanksgiving. It’s one of two major holidays (the other one being Seollal 설날, Lunar New Year). By the lunar calendar, this full moon is supposed to be the biggest and brightest of the year. (In China, it’s celebrated as Mid-Autumn Festival.)

In celebration of Chuseok, a giant 20 meter diameter inflated ‘moon’ is on display at Seokchon Lake, Jamsil (on the east lake, right behind the new Lotte World Mall). I wanted to check it out because I missed the giant rubber ducky back in 2014. Alex and I took a quick stroll to Seokchon Lake after Baby M went to bed (Grandma is in town for a conference). As with all places in Korea, the place was packed (lots of people taking photos with selfie sticks!!). On a Monday night. We didn’t walk around the lake, so we didn’t see the eight inflated ‘planets’ (smaller in size than the moon).

Anyway, if you’re in southeast Seoul, check out the Super Moon. It runs through October 3, and will be lit up from 6 PM to 10 PM each night. There’s supposed to be a festival next week during Chuseok (September 14 – 16). There’s even a pop-up store selling souvenirs!

I had to get past all the people with selfie sticks to take these…
