Linda McCartney Photo Exhibit & Tongin Market 통인시장
I recently went to the Linda McCartney photo exhibit at the Daelim museum 대림미술관 (near Gyeongbokgung Palace). If you’re like me (clueless about pop culture), then here’s a one-sentence summary of Linda McCartney: She was married to Paul McCartney (and if you are REALLY clueless, of Beatles fame) and was the first female photographer to have her photo appear on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. There were lots of photos of her family, as well as famous bands and musicians (the Beatles, Mick Jagger, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, among others).
After the museum, and even though it was WAY BELOW freezing, we explored Tongin Market for lunch. The market is covered but not heated, but thank goodness there was an area with tables that was enclosed and heated. I purchased a bundle of 10 tokens (for 5,000 won total, to be used at any vendor accepting tokens) and was given a plastic tray with little dividers (think elementary school lunch). I steered away from all food that wasn’t warm (read: STEAMING HOT). The Korean dumplings (mandu 만두) were especially tasty. Tongin Market was fun, but I think I’ll go back after it gets warm again!
